about

My career as an actor was very brief. Senior year in high school, we performed Thornton Wilder's "Our Town." My part consisted of three lines, which I got to say on stage precisely once. I played what Mr. Wilder called "A man among the dead".
The plot of that play involves Emily going back and watching one day in her life before she goes to, well, sit among the rest of us on the shadowy right side of the stage. So the question is: if YOU could go back to that relationship -- that ONE relationship -- how would it make you feel? (And the answer is, I bet, it would depend on the day.)

lyrics

I Really Don't Miss You
Bill Dollison

You've been gone so long
I've got a whole different you in my head
A you that's not so strong
--see? all along you were better off dead.

You know my brain plays tricks
It skips right over the bad things you did
So you got last licks
Like we were both just Little League kids

And I really don't miss you
I miss someone I've replaced you with
I miss someone who's an angel
And I've never quite been able
to get past your myth

I miss someone else
I miss someone who's just a bit like you.
A you that's much more kind
A yoohoo doesn't know that we're through

I miss another age
A century of life that's gone by
But now we've turned the page
And your mem'ry just left in a sigh.

And I really don't miss you
I miss someone who seemed always sure
I miss life when it felt easy
Always "camp" and sometimes "cheesy"
But from here so pure.
And I really don't miss you
I miss someone that I've changed you to
I miss life when it felt easy
Always "camp" and sometimes "cheesy"
But I miss you too
